D-alpha-Tocopheryl acetate is an esterified derivative of natural D-α-tocopherol via acetic acid esterification at the phenolic hydroxyl group on chromane ring; the acetylation modification eliminates free phenolic -OH to significantly improve chemical stability against ambient oxidation, resolving the natural tocopherol's short shelf-life defect under light & heat exposure. As a lipid-soluble chain-breaking antioxidant, its molecular chromanol backbone can capture free radicals generated from lipid peroxidation: the acetate group hydrolyzes gradually after penetrating lipid-rich cell membrane or cosmetic oil phase, releasing active free hydroxyl to donate hydrogen atom to peroxyl radicals (ROO·), terminating free radical chain oxidation reaction and restraining unsaturated fatty acid degradation of cell phospholipid bilayer. For dermal application: After percutaneous absorption into stratum corneum lipid bilayer, it inhibits tyrosinase catalytic activity indirectly by reducing intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) which activates tyrosinase, slowing down melanin precursor dopaquinone synthesis to reduce pigment deposition at cellular level.
